Red Plaid Swing Top

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here on the blog! And I couldn’t be more excited! This time of year is my absolute favorite. I know, I know. I just got done talking about how much I love Fall. But Christmas is hands-down, without-a-doubt the best time of year.

Today I’m sharing a casual holiday look that would be perfect for an evening spent inside playing board games with friends or on Christmas Day itself.

While I’m open to wearing other colors during the holidays, styling bright Christmas red is my go-to festive color come this time of year. For me, it’s just so easy (and effective) to add bright pops of red to just about any look to make it feel more festive.

Last year, I wore this cozy sweater dress on the big day, but this year I think I’ll go with something more traditional and classic to my style–a festive plaid top and skinny jeans.

First off, can we talk about how swingy and fun this tiered top is?! I mean…that movement!! It’s one of those tops you can’t help but twirl a little in when you walk. And the bright red Christmas plaid pattern is one I can fully get behind during the holiday season. Plus, the subtle button-back detail (not shown here) is a super cute touch that adds a little more personality to the back of the blouse. Anyone else a sucker for button details on their clothes?!

I paired the top here with skinny jeans (my first pair of rag & bone jeans, on sale!) and added in other fun festive details, like these red loafer flats, a sparkly clutch, and a pearl necklace. The look is simple to put together but packs a lot of holiday punch. Just the type of look you want come the crazy holiday season. Simple but festively bright!

Also, a quick note on these jeans. They are amazing! Designer jeans were never something I fully bought into…that is until I tried my first pair of 7 For All Mankind skinny jeans last year. (I talked about their amazing-ness in this post.) So after wearing them non-stop for a full year and pretty much throwing out all my other jeans, I decided it was time to add another pair into the mix. After hearing rave reviews about this Rag & Bone pair and stalking them until they went on sale, I made the jump and purchased them in my normal size 27. They are super stretchy, high-waisted, and the perfect dark wash color. I love them. The unfinished, frayed hem may not be in everyone’s taste, but I like it because it’s very different from any of the jeans I already own. And honestly, often I wear my jeans tucked into boots so that you can’t even see the hems when worn. Anyways…sorry for the aside! Just wanted to let you know about my thoughts on them! Designer jeans are definitely an investment, but one I believe you won’t regret. When you find the right pair for the right price, you’ll understand! And you’ll never want to go back after experiencing how incredible they feel against your skin. (I never knew jeans could feel so buttery and soft!)
