Boho Chic

Hi, friends! With Coachella happening the past few weekends, I’ve had festival vibes on the mind. So today I’m sharing with you my take on a boho chic outfit. P.S. This is about as ‘festival-like’ as I get! 😉

Boho chic draws its influence from Bohemian and hippie influences, so lots of flowy silhouettes and layers are a defining characteristic of the trend. While I’m not one who looks good in billowy, shapeless pieces (it’s just not something that looks good on my body type), I knew that I could find something that was more fitted in shape and still flowy in nature. Enter the perfect summer boho dress.

At first glance after arriving, I didn’t think I was going to like the shape of this dress. I have a more athletic build through my torso (read: wide with not many curves), so I thought the cinched waist would only accentuate this width. But let me tell you guys, this dress must be magical because it ended up doing the complete opposite! And the cinched waist is actually not confining whatsoever. Without having a ton of elastic to hold its shape, it only slightly hugs your hips and the flowy ruffled layers underneath. So it fits like a glove and seriously feels like you are wearing nothing. Without knowing, it was the perfect piece to go brunching last weekend. And I got a killer discount as a student at Tommy Hilfiger if that applies to you!

To keep with the Bohemian style, I added lots of simple gold jewelry–like this delicate layered gold necklace, lots of bangles, and lots of rings. And you can’t be boho chic without a little fringe, right? So I added in one of my favorite cognac clutches with a fringe tassel (last seen here).

If you are a little nervous about trying the boho trend for the first time (me), you can always add in a denim jacket to keep the look modern and casual. I’ve found that in Colorado especially, you should never be caught without a light outer layer too. So the denim jacket serves both purposes! (Case in point: it is currently snowing here…and it’s almost MAY, guys!)

Next up, can we talk about these shoes?! I found them on sale last year during Christmas time. If you’ve noticed, I tend to snag a lot of my favorite finds on major sale out of season. It may be hard to wait an entire year before wearing many of these purchases, but on a graduate student budget, it makes the purchase possible and my wallet thanks me. 🙂

At any rate, I love these lace up heels. I love that they are a bright neutral color that can be paired with just about any color and looks extra fresh for spring and summer. I’m obsessed with the cutout details and lace up fronts. They’re the first of its kind in my closet, and let’s just say they haven’t disappointed. I’m thinking I need their sandal counterpart. Thoughts?
