Capsule Wardrobe STYLE Winter Fashion

Burnt Orange + Gray

Hi, friends! Today I’m bringing you another favorite outfit from my January Capsule Wardrobe experiment. In today’s look I’m styling a favorite new addition to my wardrobe–the VETTA Oversized Sweater.

This sweater has quickly become a game-changer in my closet since adding it in early November. Not only can it be worn as a cardigan (as I’m showing here), but it can also be worn as a crewneck sweater (buttons down the back perferred) AND as a turtleneck sweater (there’s a detachable neck piece). I mean…does it get any better than having a go-to 3-in-1 piece that you can style for just about any weather condition?!

It’s been particularly useful during my capsule wardrobe experiment as I’m trying to cut down on the amount of clothing I wear each month.

While the sweater can be worn multiple ways, I tend to wear it as a cardigan on most occasions. I’m a color lover through and through, so I usually opt to layer it over a brightly colored tee or turtleneck. I’m particularly loving the gray and burnt orange color combination here. It’s a color palette I would normally wear more in fall, but am totally loving in winter too. There’s something so warm and toasty about adding in earthy tones to my typically neutral-toned winter wardrobe. And adding in these warmer colors has definitely helped with winter wardrobe burnout and the itch for spring to come early.

I added on a dainty little detail with the Optimist necklace from 31 Bits. I’m typically one to love a bright, bold statement piece, especially from 31 Bits, but I love that this is much more understated while still making a statement. And it feels so feminine and pretty with just about anything you pair it with.

And these buttons!!! I can’t get enough! I love a great button detail on a sweater.

Another detail I love…the sleeves! The sleeves are just a tad shorter than full-length, which allows color from your undershirt to show. I just LOVE the pop of burnt orange out of the sleeve in the photo above. And in fact, when I wore this sweater as a turtleneck last month, I paired it again with this burnt orange turtleneck because I loved the unexpected pop of color at the wrists. I know it seems subtle, but sometimes it’s the smaller details of an outfit that make it feel extra special. Don’t you think?

The sweater is a cotton material, so it’s not the warmest sweater I own. But I actually LOVE that it’s cotton because I can wear it on days when it’s not super cold out (which is more often than not). That way, I can save my warmer sweaters for when I really need them.

And I can’t forget to mention two other January Wardrobe workhorses–my dark wash boyfriend jeans and black snow boots. Both were among my top worn items in January (see this post for my wear counts).

I’m really loving this monthly capsule wardrobe and tracking my wear counts because it’s highlighting what I actually wear and how versatile the pieces I own are.
