Spring 10×10 Outfit 6

When I started the Spring 10×10 Challenge, never would I have imagined that on my “off’ days I’d be reaching for these pieces still. But lo and behold I put together this outfit for a cozy day of studying and running errands this weekend and didn’t feel like I was compromising one bit! Maybe there’s something to this capsule wardrobe, simple living concept after all!

I’ll be honest, for days when I’m studying at home, I am all about working in comfy leisurewear (aka my pjs). But when it comes to studying or working out and about in the world (usually at Wonder), I opt for outfits that are not only comfy but also look cute and put together.

Enter in the Canadian tuxedo–a classic denim on denim combination that I actually, believe it or not, rocked for the first time in Vancouver this spring. Ha! (P.S. – One of my favorite Canadians rocking it too.)

At any rate, this combination was calling my name when I was getting ready to go out to study on Sunday morning. I just couldn’t shake it from my mind. So I went with it! And chose to not fight it even on my “off” day.

This look works for me because of its ease and simplicity. I love that it consists of two pieces–a chambray button-up and a pair of skinny jeans. That’s really it! One styling note that I always abide by on this one is pairing the lighter wash of the button-up with a darker denim on bottom. The contrast to me is what makes this outfit so pretty! Otherwise, if your denim’s are too close in color, you become somewhat of an amorphous blob. (Definitely not as cute, at least on me. I’m sure some people can totally pull it off! 😛 ) You could also make a similar look to this using a light blue button-up if you already have one of those instead!

I paired the look with my favorite flats (that I quite literally live in at the office during the week) and a simple linen scarf to keep the chilly’s at bay. If you didn’t hear, it snowed (yes, SNOWED!) here in Boulder over the weekend. So while it seems really warm and spring-y in these photos, there was for sure snow still around in the more shaded areas.

Plus, remember when I talked about what I didn’t like about wearing a chambray–that fussy bunching around the waist. Well I’m eating my words just a little bit with this outfit because technically it doesn’t solve the problem like a high-waisted skirt did. However, I will say that adding on a scarf over the button-up helped to hide some of that bunching and I felt completely at home in this look over the weekend. So perhaps just a few intentional styling details can turn a look around for me. How fascinating, right!? I’m starting to think that the number of ways I do like this top outnumber the ways I don’t. It just takes a little trial and error to find ways that work for me and my style! (Note to self: Don’t give up so easily next time!)

And for carrying all my weekend necessities, I always like to have a larger tote in tow for errand running. There’s just something so carefree and easy about having a larger bag on the weekends, don’t you think? Good for throwing a pretty lipbalm, summer sunnies, and my favorite wallet in. This bag was a sweet Christmas gift from my mom, so it feels extra special to carry around. And I love that the deep chocolate color paired with the warm chestnut detailing is neutral enough to be paired with a variety of different colors year-round. (Just saw this super chic weekend backpack in the same print too–how cute!)

And that wraps up the little weekend get-up I put together! I’ll be back tomorrow with Monday’s look, followed by a whole week of mixing and matching my 10×10 pieces. Get excited!
