Travel Style: Home For The Holidays

I love traveling home for the holidays to spend Christmas and the New Year with family and friends. But it’s not always easy to put together a stylish outfit that is also comfortable for hours spent on a plane. So today I’m sharing with you my go-to travel style for wintertime plane rides.

Travel comfort starts with a flowy top that isn’t too tight or restrictive. I love this peplum hem tee from Old Navy. So much in fact that I bought one in every color!

I love that it feels like regular tshirt, but has a cute flirty flare at the bottom. And it’s still light enough that I won’t overheat on the plane.

And Express’s One Eleven line is also another great option for cute and exceedingly comfortable clothing. Currently loving this pretty lavender top in the softest material!

Next essential: faux leather leggings! It’s the luxe version of the stretchy yoga pants we all dream of traveling in. I love how these are so comfortable but look really polished and put-together.

And since their popularity has grown over the past few years, there are tons (TONS!) of different options out there to fit any style or price point. I chose these because I loved the seam detail on the upper thigh, which makes them look like real leather (but at a fraction of the cost!). I also have heard great things about this Spanx version too!

As for comfortable footwear, you can always wear a cute pair of tennis shoes (also love these) for traveling. But in the fall and winter I like to take full advantage of “boot season” while it lasts. So I usually pair these booties with the leather leggings, which really brings the outfit together in a very polished way.

If you aren’t a heeled booties kind of person, Old Navy just came out with this lower heeled version that I love! And I LOVE these.

And boots are also super easy to slip on and off at TSA, which is a major factor for me when deciding what to wear on the plane. Look for boots with a zipper on the size to make this process a lot easier!

As for carry-on luggage, I love, love, love this Vera Bradley bag (and also use this duffel all the time). It’s the perfect size to fit everything you could need while traveling, and it comes in the prettiest crimson color.

I usually pack my computer and a couple magazines with me for reading on the plane, along with a reusable bottle I can fill up at the water fountain. And of course a few snacks too. 😉

As for accessories, it’s always a good idea to travel with a watch in case something happens to your phone.

For me, I just like being able to unplug from my phone for a few hours, and having a watch makes that possible without losing track of the time. I’ve had this Fossil watch since high school, but they’ve come out with digital ones since then that look really rad. This one is a very similar analog version too!

Another key ingredient of the perfect travel outfit? A great scarf!

I love a great scarf while traveling anytime, but especially in the winter. It’s the perfect way to add a little color and spice to an outfit, and keeps you warm if it gets too cold on the plane.

And let’s be honest…it also makes for a great stand-in pillow too. 😛 I’ve linked several scarves that I love below!

As for feeling confident and stylish while traveling, I love adding on a great lipstick or gloss, regardless if I’m wearing make-up or not (which I’m usually not!).

Lip color definitely isn’t necessary, but makes me feel so much more put together and ready to conquer the world. I love Burt’s Bees lip crayon, or this rosy tinted Vaseline, which both add color and moisture. And they’re super easy to just throw into any bag for later if you’re in a hurry or just want to apply some upon arrival.
