Fall Fashion STYLE

Plaid on Plaid

Happy Wednesday, friends! We’re halfway to the weekend. Getting back into the swing of blogging again and so excited to start getting more and more into fall style (read: ALL the plaids and cozy knits!). So today I’m starting things off with a fun plaid on plaid look that is sure to get you in the mood for all things fall.

This weekend Allen and I went camping in Pike National Forest and had THE best time (more on that soon in a weekend recap!). It was the perfect way to rest and reset after weeks …and weeks and weeks… of studying. After camping for a night, we took a scenic drive into Aspen to see the beautiful colors of the changing leaves. So I couldn’t help but stop to take a few pictures on our journey!

By the way, for those keeping track…we checked 3 things off my fall bucket list this weekend. (Camping, Aspen leaves, and Plaid!)

Camping and road tripping style is all about comfort for me, especially when the temperature swings with altitude can take you from summertime sunshine in Boulder to wintertime snow storm in Breckenridge–and all in the matter of only a few hours of driving. So I brought plenty of light layers that I could easily take on and off with the changing of temperatures on our trip.

I like to start out with a basic tee and love that this one speaks my heart to a T (pun intended) ;). Next, I like to layer on an easy button up layer like this classic chambray version, or a fun plaid version for fall! My plaid top here is from last year, but I love the similar muted colors of this one or this one. And truly, when it comes to comfort, warmth and style, you can do no wrong with flannel and plaid together in my opinion. P.S. – If it’s still relatively warm where you live but you want to dress for the season, I’m obsessed with this short-sleeved flannel top with the cutest button detail on the back.

As for shoes, I got these waterproof duck boots for our girls trip to Chicago last year and have loved them ever since! They are a chic, more comfortable alternative to clunky rain boots when you’ve got lots of walking to do. And while I wouldn’t recommend them for lots of climbing (I swear by these Merrell trail shoes), I was very comfortable in them walking around camp and exploring different stops en route to Aspen this past weekend. (Also, I should let you know that they were the perfect boot for exploring Chicago last year too, if that wasn’t evident!) After looking at the selection of boots this season, I’m loving this fun red color combination (how cute?!) and this quilted cold weather variation too!

And we all know how much I love my blankets scarves. Sometimes I feel like I rave about them so much that I should be an ambassador for them or something. Haha! But seriously, they aren’t just cute and trendy but are legitimately cozy and warm! I put it around Allen’s neck while we were taking some of these photos and even he admitted to it keeping him nice and toasty! (And he’s a hard critic to convince when it comes to fashion.)

The pattern of blanket scarf here was the original color scheme to gain popularity a few years back, but they’ve come out with so many different color combinations since then that I’m convinced anyone can find one that suits their own style. I just picked up this one for fall–the bright orange colors are so pretty!–and I have this black version from last year as well that goes great in the wintertime. I also love this maroon one for all my Aggie friends (and Sooner family) out there.

And I have to admit….this plaid on plaid combination was a complete accident. I didn’t actually plan to wear these two together. (Allen was the genius behind that, can you believe it?!) But I’m totally into the look now. The plaid on plaid is so very fall and I think I’ll be wearing a lot more of it now that I know it’s both stylish and comfortable. Oh. So. Comfortable, friends!

Thanks to Allen for being patient with me and taking all these photos this weekend while out on our adventure! (Between you and me, I think he’s starting to enjoy photography more and more each time, especially since getting this new lens 😉 )

What about you? What’s your favorite way to wear plaid this fall? Have you tried the plaid on plaid style?
