Spring Fashion STYLE

Sherpa Coat

Hi, friends! While it’s officially springtime now (calendar-wise that is), we’ve been experiencing snow and other winter weather here in Colorado still. Brrrrr!

Being in one season on the calendar and another on the temperature scale can making dressing for the season a bit tricky. On one hand you want so desperately for it to be spring so that you can pull out all your bright pastel skirts and dresses (and sunhats!). But on the other hand, you know that it’s still 30 degrees outside and you’re bare legs would most definitely freeze in the cold, wet snow.

So while I’m a bit jealous of the warmer weather I’ve been seeing all across social media lately, I think I’ll stick to a few of my favorite, warmer transitioning pieces until the weather eases up a bit here in Colorado.

Distressed denim and a simple gray tee. It’s something I would normally wear for a casual weekend of errands and lounging around the house. But with the chillier-than-normal temperatures here, a jacket over top becomes more than a styling accent. It becomes a necessity.

I paired this simple casual outfit with a warm sherpa jacket in a bright ivory color that keeps the outfit in a springy color palette. I found this particular jacket at Banana Republic on sale last season, but have linked several similar ones below. (Gotta love all the after season sales, no?)

To add some fun pops of color to the outfit, I added vibrant watermelon-colored pumps and a fun statement clutch in a bold watercolor print. I love how the bright reds add a punchy pop to the whole look without being too over the top.

And I love how simple this outfit is. It plays on the most basic of casual outfits–distressed denim + a vneck.  But I also love that it has a lot of fun elements that give it personality beyond the foundational pieces–like the red pumps, watercolor clutch, and statement necklace.

And let’s not forget about the sherpa jacket that is seriously so warm. It’s the perfect transitioning piece for the wish-it-was-spring-but-it’s-definitely-still-winter kind of days.

What about you? How to you add fun, functional (read: warm) pieces to your outfits when you’re ready for the spring season?
