Hi, friends! And welcome to Day 9 of the Summer 10×10 Challenge! I’m so incredibly excited to share today’s look with you because it is my absolute favorite of the bunch so far! I am totally smitten with it and already can’t wait to wear it again.
Can we talk about how chic this look feels, while still remaining absolutely comfortable and completely approachable?! I’m a huge fan of casual chic looks, as I’ve lovingly dubbed them over the years, but I’ve never really consider myself to be capable of putting together something so effortlessly sophisticated. Enter this outfit, and I’m beginning to change my mind!
If this outfit has taught me anything, it’s that if you have the right separates, a casual chic look isn’t too far from reach. In fact, it’s totally doable and simple to achieve. So let’s get into my thoughts on what makes this look so good.
Firstly, I think the color palette lends itself a long way to achieving an effortlessly chic look. Neutrals like black, white, and gray may seem boring at first glance, but when paired together in a color-block fashion can give a high-contrast, clean lines look that anyone can appreciate. Black and white solids separates (like this sweater and these pants) paired together in particular give a fresh, clean, sophisticated feel that is hard to achieve any other way.
Secondly, the billowy silhouette of the pants paired with the somewhat more structured knit of the top compliment each other perfectly. But it’s the front tuck of the sweater that really brings this outfit up a notch. It’s the little detail that gives this look a truly effortless vibe. And I’m loving how the sides of the sweater wrap around my hips to give the tuck an ‘A’ structure that is super flattering without looking sloppy one bit.
And lastly, an oversized slouchy bag, layered necklaces, and minimalist flats are details that feel comfortable and take no extra effort on your part, but really amp up the sophistication of the look. Layered necklaces, in particular, are something you will be seeing on me a lot more in the coming months. And with so many new layered necklace sets (like this one) that take the guess work out of which lengths to pair together, it doesn’t get much easier.
Clean lines, color-blocked placement of pieces, slouchier tucks and folds, and layered lengths all lend this look to making it the perfect casual chic outfit.
And don’t worry, you can still add on a fun pop of color, like this yellow cardigan, without sacrificing any style. I particularly love yellow because it can be bright and punchy for summer, or mellow and warm for fall–all depending on what other colors you pair it with!
And that’s my Day 9 look of the Summer 10×10 Challenge! Can’t believe how insightful this one was! You can bet I’m taking some serious style notes away from this one for the future.
And that’s really what the 10×10 Challenge is all about. Exploring, experimenting, and learning a whole lot about your personal style. And sometimes, just sometimes you shatter a ‘fashion ceiling’ you placed over yourself and a whole new genre of looks becomes accessible to you.
What about you? Have you ever put together a casual chic look? What were some of the key aspects that made it work for you?
