Summer 10×10 Outfit 1

Hi, friends! We’ve got some catching up to do, don’t we?! This week I am so excited to be starting the Summer 10×10 Challenge with you! And while I had planned to blog about my outfits every night this week, my research/work had other plans for me in the evenings. But that’s ok! These are the last 2 weeks of my summer work tour at NASA, so you can forgive me, right?!

At any rate, let’s get all caught up on my outfits this week, shall we?! Starting with the first Summer 10×10 outfit–a pretty floral dress that makes me want to twirl all day!

While this outfit is pretty predictable as far as my summer wardrobe goes (I told you 90% of my summer work wear is dresses)…it is exactly what I wanted to be in 1st thing on an early Monday morning at the office. (Monday came far too soon for me this week. You too?!)

Dresses are my absolute FAVORITE thing to wear in the summertime, when it’s sticky and hot. They are a one-and-done piece that really just can’t be topped when it comes to both comfort and cuteness, in my opinion. Whether I’m exploring on the weekends or going into the office during the week, dresses are my go-to outfit. The key to picking out a great work dress comes down to the material. While I love wearing cotton-y pieces on the weekend, most of my work dresses are made of a silky material (usually polyester) that breathes really well in the heat and has a dressier look to it overall. I try my hardest to only buy pieces that are machine washable (gotta be easy to take care of for me!), but sometimes a winner like the dress I’m wearing today (that is dry clean only) sneaks in and steals my heart too!

Summer 10x10 Outfit 1 | www.cupcakesandthecosmos.comThe drop hem waist of this dress is so much fun, don’t you think?! It just makes me want to twirl around all day when I walk!

I kept things super simple on the style-front (it is a Monday after all). I could have easily cinched in the waist of the dress with a belt to give it a different, more form-fitting shape. But why mess with something that’s already working beautifully?! I’ll keep the super feminine flowy-ness, thank you very much! I’m a huge fan of letting that pretty ruffley hem do its thing when I walk down the hall. So fun!

For accessories, I paired my favorite gold necklace from Allen (not pictured) and a simple gold cuff bracelet for a dressier touch. As for shoes, I’ve only got one superstar pair for the entire 10×10 Challenge, and luckily they pair well with everything! Super comfy too. (I’m a flats kinda gal for life!)

For a little color pop, I added a bright yellow cardigan over top. But I didn’t stop there–one color just wasn’t enough for me. Haha! For some reason, my brain pairs colors in 3’s and it just needed something extra to round it out. So I added on this cute little mint cross-body bag for the perfect color combination. Love it!

And that’s my Day 1 look of the Summer 10×10 Challenge. A somewhat predictable start to the challenge (given my Day 1 look back in the Spring), but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with finding something that works and sticking to it!
