10x10 Challenge SERIES Spring Fashion STYLE

Spring 10×10 Outfit 12

Hi, friends! Today will be short and sweet, as I’m smack dab in the middle of finishing up my last project of the semester (yippee!). But I just had to stop in and share this Look 12 of the Spring 10×10 Challenge. It’s one that looks way more polished and put together than it feels (read: super comfy for a work day at the office).

And for those of you who are more into my lifestyle and recap posts, I promise they will be back very soon! Those posts just take longer to put together and I’ve been short on time as final projects wrap up. But in the works are recaps of our Cabin Getaway in Crested Butte, our Spring Break adventures in Seattle and British Colombia, as well as our time in Antigua, Guatemala. I know! It seems like forever ago that we took those trips, but I promise they are coming soon! Just got to make it to summer break first. #gradstudentlife, am I right?Spring 10x10 Challenge, Outfit 12 | www.cupcakesandthecosmos.com

Ok, so let’s just jump right into this look then, shall we?

Today was a hard core work day, so I needed an outfit that would be comfortable but still look put together since I was meeting with professors throughout the day. And this one fit the bill perfectly! It’s super similar to this look I put together last week, but instead of pairing it with a lacy bralette underneath, I instead layered a chambray button-up for the perfectly layered look.

Remember how I was talking about challenging myself to layer more pieces this week? Well this one was a test of my creative abilities and I’m absolutely smitten with how it turned out!

A quick styling note… Sometimes layering lots of pieces can add bulk to your figure, and finding the right balance of pieces is something I’m definitely still working on. But every great expert starts somewhere, right? To combat any bulkiness that may have been added by layering this chambray with a sweater, I added a cute leopard print belt around my waist to cinch in the sides and give my figure a little more curve. You don’t want the belt to be too tight or it makes the sweater pouch out on the sides. But having just a tiny area that hugs your smallest part elevates the look so much!

I also decided to use a skinnier belt than I used in this look to keep the belt from taking over the show. I really wanted the layering to take center stage for this one! And while this belt does have a fun leopard detailing, it’s in the neutral color palette and so isn’t too flashy.

I also rolled up the sleeves of my sweater just a little bit so that the cuffs of the chambray button-up show. I love how the bright blue and crisp white contrast–it’s so pretty! And I also unbuttoned the top few buttons of the chambray so that its neckline followed the outline of the deeper vneck sweater. It gives the look a more casual vibe without looking sloppy.

On bottom, I added my favorite skinny jeans and flats, because what else could be more comfortable to work in all day?!

And that’s my Day 12 look of the Spring 10×10 Challenge! I’ll be styling my white skirt for the two final looks and one of them may very well be my favorite of the entire challenge. So get excited!
