Simple Colorful Basics for Exploring Antigua on Foot

I’m so excited to finally kick off my Guatemala posts! If you didn’t know, Allen’s mom treated us to this trip over Christmas Break (back at the beginning of January), and it was both of our first times there! But I’ll talk all about what we did and where we stayed in a recap post later. Today is all about simple colorful basics for exploring Antigua on foot!Colorful outfit for exploring Antigua Guatemala on foot | www.cupcakesandthecosmos.comWithout knowing too much at all about Guatemala, I knew it was a Central American country and that it was sure to be filled with lots of fun colors and a bright culture! So I packed simple basics that I could mix and match each day, as well as ones that would breathe well in the heat.

I’ve always been a fan of the easy breezy tops from J. Crew Factory. I wear them to work just about every day, especially in the summertime when the heat goes up. I love that these tops are made out of polyester and so they flow and drape really well over your body, but also dry quickly in the heat (Hello, Houston! I’m lookin’ at you.). They’re ones I’m not afraid to sweat in and still feel dry and fresh at the end of the day. This specific top is from a season or two ago (on clearance now!), but their newest floral pattern for spring is to-die-for cute! I also love this bright red bandanna-inspired tee.

For the bottom portion of my outfits, I brought a mixture of colorful shorts and bright linen skirts. This skirt is super easy to wear–no real styling (like a belt) required. And they stay snug on my hips with the elastic waistband, not to mention they stretch if I have an extra big meal. 😉 #priorities, am I right? The linen material is also super easy to wear in the heat because it breathes well. Loving these floral shorts as a colorful alternative too!

Colorful outfit for exploring Antigua Guatemala on foot | www.cupcakesandthecosmos.comHaving only a week to explore Antigua, I wanted to make sure our time was optimized and didn’t want to spend a lot of time getting ready in the mornings. With frizzy, curly hair like mine, that can be a serious challenge. So many days I just opted for a low back braid that kept my hair out of my face and gave the appearance that I spent much more time getting ready than I actually did. Another trick…opt for cute sunglasses over makeup! (No one will ever know!)

(…especially since I was shopping for these in the dead of winter in Colorado.) If you noticed in the pictures above, most of the streets in Antigua are cobbled in stones, and spending a full day on that kind of ground can be taxing on your feet. These sandals were just the perfect mix of uber comfort and summer style and I couldn’t recommend them enough! (They are actually designed for the cobble stone streets in Europe, so you know they are designed well!)

I pretty much wore a variation of this outfit every day. You can see all my outfits on Instagramday 1, day 2, day 3, day 4 (post coming soon), day 5. But I’ll likely do a Guatemala packing post as well if you are interested to see what I packed! (I only took a carry-on to save time through customs, so I had to be extra efficient and picky.)
