Sweet Cow Ice Cream + Three Summer Trends You Can Wear Into Fall

Walking around downtown Louisville sure does work up an appetite! (See my first stop in Louisville, CO here.) Luckily, nothing alleviates an afternoon hankering for something sweet like a trip into Sweet Cow for ice cream. Here, the soft scent of vanilla from freshly baked waffle cones is almost as enticing as the bright and smiling faces of the “Moo Crew” serving up the most vibrant flavors of ice cream in Louisville. It’s something that no afternoon in downtown should go without.

I’m a go big or go home kind of girl when it comes to ice cream, so I pile my waffle cone high with rich flavors like Oatmeal Cookie and Dutch Chocolate, or lighter more summery flavors like Watermelon Sorbet and Salted Caramel. And because each flavor is made in small batches with only the simplest, locally-sourced ingredients, this is one sweet treat you don’t have to feel guilty about indulging in.

Feeling extra adventurous? I’d recommend the ice cream sammie—a scoop of creamy ice cream sandwiched between two warm chocolate chip cookies. Perfection. It’s the best way I can think of to spend any afternoon in Louisville, CO–with an ice cream in hand!

I mentioned this in in my last post, but fun breezy sundresses have quickly become my go-to attire when adventuring on the weekends. One of the newest trends to hit the fashion industry this summer was off-the-shoulder dresses. At first I was hesitant to jump onto the bandwagon because I tend to have wider shoulders than most, but when I found this off-the-shoulder dress at Eleanor boutique, it was love at first sight.

Off-the-shoulder dresses provide a fun, flirty way to show off your playful side while keeping to a comfortable, flowy dress silhouette. If you’re new to the trend but don’t want the full commitment of off-the-shoulder, I’d recommend this adorable one shoulder dress in the cutest stripped chambray, or this one in the warmest shade of burgundy. You could also try the trend in a top and pair it with a classic pair of jeans. I’m obsessed with these off-the-shoulder Tibi tops in the prettiest fall hues. Or this crisp white off-the-shoulder top for one that is a modern take on a classic staple and perfect year-round. (I also love this one, this one, and this one for lower price point options!)

And speaking of popular trends this season, chokers are coming back into style ladies, but with an updated sophistication over the original 90’s trend that I can actually get behind. Here I’ve layered this leather beaded choker with a simple golden loop necklace. The combination is earthy and raw yet modern and fresh, combining varying textures and lengths to create the perfect focal piece of the look. Pieces like these are perfect for transitioning into the cooler months, and I especially love anything leather and earth-toned for fall.

I also added in some color and pizzazz with these fun tassel bracelets. They are the perfect way to brighten up any outfit for summertime. And I already have my eye on this burgundy tassel gold bangle and these jet black tassel bracelets that can be worn straight into the fall season! Much like adding in a fringe bag or boots, accessorizing with tasseled jewelry adds fun texture and movement to any look.

For those that don’t know, the little boy in these photos is the son of one of my friends, Wendy, who is the amazing designer behind WanderTree macrame items. She makes everything from wall decor to plant hangers and even custom pieces for weddings! Personally though, I’ve been dying to get my hands on one of her handmade macrame necklaces. How cute are these?!

At any rate, her son Maddoc is so adorable (those curls!!) and was so much fun to work with. And guess what else?! He is just as big of a space nerd as I am!!! (Did you notice his awesome Moon shirt in all the pictures?) Needless to say this future astronaut-in-the-making and I hit it off instantly and had so much fun talking about outer space during the shoot. Space AND ice cream?! Doesn’t get much better than that in my book, folks!

Maddoc definitely had the right idea going for sprinkles, and I only regret not doing it myself! You’ll have to let me know what your favorite flavor (or combination of flavors) are when you visit Sweet Cow on your next outing to Louisville, CO. I can’t wait to hear all about it!
